2023 Viognier
Tasting Notes
Our 2023 Viognier is a medium-bodied wine that beautifully showcases the best of both stainless steel and barrel-fermented Viognier. It opens with expressive aromas of spiced apple sauce, Honeycrisp apple, and ripe banana, layered with hints of butterscotch. On the palate, it is rich and flavorful, featuring creamy layers of crushed cashew and brioche, intertwined with notes of poached pear and honey. The finish reveals subtle layers of sweet barrel spice and balanced acidity, leading to a slightly creamy yet refreshing finish that lingers on the palate.

Vintage Notes
The 2023 vintage in Washington state was a relatively normal one. A mild winter led to a chilly spring start, with record-high mid-April temperatures bringing the vines to life by late April. Moderate spring temperatures promoted steady growth, which was carefully managed to achieve ideal crop loads. June and July brought intense heat—among the hottest on record—accelerating ripening and causing lower acid levels, easily adjusted in the cellar. Overall, the vintage was exceptional, yielding some of the ripest grapes in years. White wines showcase bright tropical fruit with crisp acidity, while red wines are robust, elegant, and structured, with dark berry flavors and refined tannins, promising world-class quality for both early enjoyment and cellaring.
Winemaking Notes
Our 2023 Viognier, sourced from our Yakima Valley estate vineyard, reflects meticulous vine-to-bottle planning. After precise winter pruning, we thinned vines throughout the season to optimize sun exposure and flavor. Harvested at peak ripeness in early October, the grapes were whole-cluster pressed and cold-settled for 72 hours. The juice was then split between stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels for cool fermentation. The barrel portion underwent full malolactic fermentation, preserving vibrant fruit aromas and acidity without a buttery profile. Stirring lees twice monthly for two months enhanced texture, and after eleven months’ aging—54% in stainless steel, 46% in French oak (33% new, 33% two-to-three-year, and 34% neutral)—the wine was blended and bottled.
