As we approach the end of summer, we are busy in the vineyard and in the cellar gearing up for harvest! Véraison (the onset of berry ripening when the grapes change color) is currently taking place. Soon the vineyards will be filled with the wonderful aroma of ripe grapes. In the cellar, several new wines are being bottled this week. Bottling this time of year is crucial in order to free up space in tanks and barrels for the upcoming harvest. Many of these exciting new wines will likely make their debut during our November Wine Club Parties. Due to the cool, unexpected weather conditions of late spring, Harvest 2010 is anticipated to start around September 20th (approximately 2 weeks behind our typical harvest date). Stay tuned for harvest updates, which can be found on our blog. This issue of the Airfield Wine Press covers an array of topics ranging from what we are doing to get ready for harvest to everything you ever wanted to know about Rhone varietals. Below are quick summaries of the newsletter articles. Inside this Issue: |
